The Origin:

Established in 1956, The Original Kolache Shoppe is the birthplace of the Houston kolache industry. This local Czech bakery has been family owned and operated for three generations, making it a much-loved Houston staple. 

For over 66 years, we have served authentic fresh-baked Czech pastries. Crafting our classic goodies, using family recipes passed down through three generations. Everything from our traditional Fruit or Cream Kolaches, to our savory Sausage Klobásníky, are all made from scratch daily. 

Our dedication to quality and freshness are at the core of our business. Always starting each morning with fresh ingredients. We prepare our products for our customers by hand thought the day to ensure quality. This has been our tradition for over six and a half decades. Our focus on quality also extends to our artisanal coffee program. Through our partnership with our sister company Zeppelin Coffee, we roast coffee fresh in store daily. 

Leadership:

Kevin Dowd is the third generational owner of The Original Kolache Shoppe. His passion for the food industry began at an early age. He was raised in the family bakery, working with his mom Donna and brother Casey. Those early years of experience established a solid foundation, that formed the basis of Kevin’s business leadership and outlook on community involvement. Today, Kevin is an active member in local community outreach programs, and he operates three independent Houston based businesses.

We are proud to work with many Houston organizations in our community outreach programs. Good food has a funny way of bringing people together and were happy to be part of the journey.
